What is Hair transplant and its costs in India

Hairtransplant is a type of surgical procedure in which the doctor moves hair from the area already having enough hair and fill into the part having less hair or no hair. These techniques are being done in the U.S since the 1950s but presently there are many changes or advancements. In today’s hectic schedule many people are facing the problem of hair loss and baldness.  Hair transplant is one of a very useful surgical procedure that helps people facing hair problems in attaining their self-esteem and confidence because of their looks.

Procedure: In the process of hair transplant the surgeon or the doctor first cleans up the scalp and medicine is injected to make the area numb. The surgery involves two methods –

•    Follicular unit strip surgery (fuss)

•    Follicular unit extraction (Fue)

In the fuss, method surgeon removes about 6-10 inch of the skin from the scalp and sets it aside then sews the scalp closed. On the Other side when you are getting FUE the back of your scalp is being shaved. The hair follicles are removed by the doctor one by one. 

Types of hair transplant: 

There are several different factors that are involved in an individual’s hair loss. Hair loss and baldness might be because of family history, aging, hormonal changes.  Hair transplant is one of a common way to get one’s hair back. Some of the procedures to transplant hair are discussed below –

Grafts: The basic step for the hair transplant to be done is that the patient is put under local anesthesia. In this grafting procedure, a portion of the scalp is removed and insertion of thousands of hair strands into the scalp is done. Periodic saline injections are given so as to keep the strands healthy. After the transplant is done the scalp having healthy hair attached to it is reattached and left for healing. 

Flaps:  The flaps procedure is far better than grafts and some other procedures. This is because of the reason that flaps procedure cover much more scalp area and on a faster rate. In this procedure, the bald area of the scalp is surgically removed and healthy hair is stretched and tethered over the area from where bald scalp was removed. However, chances of scarring are more in flaps than grafts but most part of the scalp is being covered by healthy hair.  

Tissue expansion: Tissue expansion procedure involves insertion of a balloon tissue expander surgically under the scalp.  Over a period of a few weeks, the balloon-tissue expander is filled with saline so that there would be a sufficient amount of stretching and expansion. This helps in the grafting of hair-bearing tissue easily.
